If you experience vertebral subluxation complex, articular dysfunction, or musculoskeletal disorders, you're not alone. 80% of all people experience back pain at some time in their life. Back pain is the number one reason for missing work, and is also the second highest reason for visits to the doctor.
10% of people say they have frequent low back pain. There is help for low back pain and suffering.
Low back pain can be caused by many things:
Not being active enough
"Over doing it"
The result may be sprained ligaments, strained muscles, ruptured disks, trigger points, or inflammation present. Pain may also come as a result of arthritis, poor posture, obesity, psychological stress, kidney stones, infection, or loss of bone density.
Overworked muscles and ligaments may cause improper body mechanics and postures which leave your back tight, swollen, and painful. Similarly, an underworked and weak area of the musculoskeletal system may cause an imbalance, and strain other areas of your body, causing pain stemming from awkward work positions, shortened muscles, or a weak core.
In fact, after an extensive study, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), a federal government research organization, recommends that low back pain sufferers choose the most conservative care first. The AHCPR recommends spinal manipulation as a safe and effective, drugless form of initial professional treatment for acute low back problems in adults.
Chiropractic treatment can restore mobility, increase flexibility, increase strength and decrease pain with lasting, long-term benefits. Other types of treatment serve to decrease symptoms but do not correct or restore normal spinal function, muscles strength, or flexibility. Chiropractic care can address the actual problems, work to improve the outcomes of physical therapy, and improve your ability to perform daily living activities.
The most important aspect of any treatment is improvement in the patient's condition. Cost conscious patients, insurers, and policy makers also look closely at cost-effectiveness in evaluating healthcare options. Chiropractic care has shown to bring far more value than medical treatment for neck and low back pain.
In addition to adjustments, and treatment for soft tissue injury, our chiropractic physicians will guide you on self-care modifications, exercises, safe lifting, dietary supplementation, and more. Our chiropractors can help formulate a plan for regular relaxation exercises, and moderate activity, which can help reduce stress and maintain improved levels of health.
Make an informed choice. You can read more about low-back pain and related statistics at American Chiropractic Association's "Pain and Back Statistics."
